Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter and Our Kids were each presented with a cheque for $11,000 the proceeds from the annual Trek Quest 4WD family adventure tour.
Trek Quest is an annual adventure fundraising outback tour which raises money for the Helicopter and Our Kids.
Peter Arthur and his wife Karen have been running fundraising challenges for the past 10 years. When they are not off on a fundraising adventure Peter manages the Inghams Chicken Hatchery at McKees Hill.
Peter said this year's Trek Quest involved 41 people in 16 vehicles trekking across some of the most remote tracks in Australia.
"Everyone had a ball but we were all very tired at the end," Peter said.
And it's little wonder they were tired as not only were they driving across remote outback country they were enjoying themselves along the way
"We went to Broken Hill and Silverton where we had a Mad Max dress up night, and at Byrock we had an auction.
All these extra events helped with the amazing fundraising effort which raised $22,000 all up.
"The group of people got to see a lot of country in the security of experienced tour leaders."
Peter said the kids especially enjoyed the trip and had great fun finding the answers to questions – 400 of them – about the country they were passing through.
And why does he do it?
"It gives us great satisfaction that we are making a difference in people's lives
"We can't wait till next year," Peter said.
The Our Kids charity is $12,000 better off today, thanks to some local trekkers.
Participants in an annual event, known as Trek Quest, have returned to the region after a journey of more than 8,000 kilometres.
This year the trekkers went to Lightning Ridge and back to raise money for their favourite cause.
The funds will be used to buy equipment to assist new-born babies with breathing problems.
